PoE 2 Runeforging System: How Unlocks Work by Act Progression (7 อ่าน)

18 มิ.ย. 2569 14:38

In Path of Exile 2, the Runeforging system in the Runes of Aldur League (Patch 0.5.0) is not something you get all at once. Instead, it’s tightly tied to campaign progression and Farrow’s “The Runeseeker” questline. Each act gradually expands what you can do at the Verisium Anvil, turning Runeforging from a simple crafting mechanic into a full endgame power system.

If you’re playing through the campaign, understanding when each unlock happens is important. You can easily miss key upgrades, especially the hidden ones that permanently lock content if skipped.

Act 1: Clearfell — Basic Runeforging and Runic Ward

Your first introduction to Runeforging comes early in Act 1 when you rescue Farrow in the Clearfell and Blackwater regions.

At this stage, you gain access to the Verisium Anvil in town. This is your entry point into Runeforging.

What you can do in Act 1:

Start basic Runesmithing using materials earned from monster kills

Begin crafting early rune-based currency

Apply Verisium Runes to armor

Gain access to Runic Ward, a secondary protective shield that absorbs damage before your life pool is affected

Runic Ward is especially valuable in early progression because it smooths out survivability before your gear fully catches up.

Act 2: The Bone Pits — Alloy Crafting and Modifier Control

In Act 2, Farrow’s second questline takes you into the Bone Pits, where Runeforging begins to shift toward true item crafting depth.

After completing this section, you unlock Alloy systems.

What changes in Act 2:

Unlock 13 different Alloy currency types

Begin obtaining Alloys from Ezomyte Remnant encounters

Use Alloys at crafting benches to replace item modifiers

Gain targeted stat crafting instead of random outcomes

This is the stage where Runeforging stops being just defensive utility and starts influencing build direction. You can begin shaping gear more intentionally around your build needs.

Act 3: Mystic Refuge — Unique Item Runeforging

Act 3 introduces one of the most important and easily missable upgrades in the entire system.

The Mystic Refuge is a hidden zone that is not part of the main story path. If you skip it, you permanently miss out on a key feature.

Unlocking this stage upgrades your Verisium Anvil and enables Unique Runeforging.

What you gain:

Ability to upgrad low-level unique items (below level 55)

Increased base damage on unique weapons after upgrading

Improved defensive scaling and Runic Ward on armor

Strong long-term value for leveling uniques into midgame gear

This system is especially important for players who rely on unique items during progression. Missing Mystic Refuge means you lose access to this entire upgrade path.

Act 4: The Isles — Ancient Runes and Full System Mastery

By Act 4, Runeforging reaches its final campaign stage. This is where all previous systems combine into a complete crafting framework.

You’ll need to collect map fragments from Tavakai and complete optional expedition-style sailing content to finish the questline.

Unlocks in Act 4:

Ancient Runes system

Full Runeforging capability at the Verisium Anvil

Expanded crafting combinations using all previous mechanics

At this point, Runeforging is no longer limited by early-game restrictions. It becomes a fully integrated system that transitions naturally into endgame crafting.

Transitioning Into Endgame

After finishing the campaign, Runeforging shifts away from quest unlocks and into farming-based progression.

Endgame focus includes:

Ezomyte Remnants as the primary source of Verisium materials

Expedition logbooks and underground subareas for advanced crafting nodes

Hidden Runic Altar locations that unlock rare or specialized crafting recipes

These systems are designed to extend Runeforging beyond the campaign, encouraging exploration and repeated farming rather than linear progression.

Runeforging in Path of Exile 2 is structured more like a progression ladder than a standalone crafting system. Each act adds a new layer:

Act 1 builds your foundation with survivability tools

Act 2 introduces meaningful item control

Act 3 unlocks unique item scaling (and can be missed permanently)

Act 4 completes the system for endgame transition

If you’re playing through the campaign, it’s worth paying attention to each Farrow quest step, especially the hidden Act 3 content. Missing it can significantly limit your long-term build potential.
