Looking at a used car with 190,000 km, what should I really focus on? (113 views)

I'm a first time buyer on a tight budget and I'm going to see a sedan this weekend that has 190,000 km on it. The price is right for me, but I'll admit I'm nervous about missing hidden problems. I've been reading up on what to check in heavily driven automobiles to try and prepare myself. From what I understand, I need to look beyond just how the engine sounds. Things like the condition of the suspension when going over bumps, whether the transmission shifts smoothly, and any signs of coolant leaks or overheating are really important, especially with our Sharjah heat. I'm also planning to check the service history for regular oil changes. Does anyone here have experience with high mileage cars? Are there any specific things you wish you'd checked before buying yours?
