Starting to think about adding some automation but not sure where to begin (4 views)

I've been running my small distribution operation in Ajman for about five years now and I think I've finally reached the point where doing everything manually just isn't cutting it anymore. We're handling more volume than ever and I can see my team getting worn out from the constant repetition of packing and sealing. I've been thinking about adding some simple automation but honestly I don't even know where to start—I don't want to spend a fortune on something that ends up not working for our setup. I came across a resource where I could visit detailed article that talks about how packaging choices and automation are connected, and it made me realize I probably need to standardize my packaging before I even think about adding machines. Right now I'm using a dozen different box sizes and materials, and I'm guessing that would be a nightmare to automate. I'm thinking I should probably simplify my packaging setup first, get everything consistent, and then look at adding something like a semi-automatic sealer or label applicator that can handle a standard size range. For those of you who've made the leap from fully manual to partially automated, did you find that standardizing packaging first was the key, or did you just jump in and figure it out as you went? I'm trying to avoid buying equipment that ends up being more trouble than it's worth.
