My battery failed without any warning would regular testing have caught it? (85 อ่าน)

I learned a hard lesson last week and I'm trying to figure out if I could have prevented it. I have a 2017 Honda Civic and last Tuesday, I parked at a grocery store in Sharjah, did my shopping for 20 minutes, came back, and my car was completely dead. No slow cranking before, no dim lights, no warning signs at all. The battery was 23 months old, so not super old but not brand new either. I had to call roadside assistance and buy a new battery on the spot for 380 dirhams, which was more expensive than if I had bought it from a shop. Now I'm wondering – if I had been testing my battery regularly, would a test have caught that it was about to fail? Or do some batteries just die suddenly with no warning that any test could detect? I've been reading about the importance of regular battery testing and some sources say that testing can predict failure weeks or months in advance. Other sources say that batteries can have internal failures that happen instantly and no test could have predicted it. Which is true? What kind of battery failures give warning signs, and what kind happen suddenly? If I had taken my car to a shop for a load test a week before it died, would it have shown as weak, or could it have shown as good and then died anyway? I don't want to become obsessive about testing if it wouldn't have helped in my situation. But if testing would have caught this, I want to start testing regularly. I'm trying to understand what tests actually measure and what kinds of failures they can predict. Can a standard battery load test detect internal problems like shorted cells or cracked plates before they cause sudden failure? Or do those problems happen too quickly to predict? I'd love to hear from mechanics or battery experts who understand the science behind battery failure. Please explain in simple terms what regular testing can and cannot tell you. Also, for a typical driver in Sharjah, how often would you recommend testing to balance catching problems early without wasting time and money? I want to be smarter about this in the future without becoming paranoid. Any honest advice would be really appreciated because I'm still frustrated about getting stranded and I want to make sure it doesn't happen again if I could have prevented it. Please share your knowledge and experiences.
